  1. 30-40 Grams besan /gramflour
  2. 2 Glasses buttermilk or 1 cup curd (preferably sour)
  3. 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  4. 1 Teaspoon red chilli powder
  5. As per taste salt
  6. 2 Teaspoon ginger garlic paste
  7. 1-2 finely chopped Green chillies
  8. 1 Dried red chilli
  9. 1 Bayleaf
  10. 1-2 Small peices cinnamon
  11. 1-2 Cloves
  12. 2-4 whole black pepper
  13. 1 Teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  14. Pinch aseofotida
  15. 6-8 Curry leaves
  16. 2 Strands fresh coriander leaves
  17. 2 tablespoon grated jaggery
  18. 3-4 Tablespoon oil
  19. 1 Teaspoon cumin seeds
  20. For khichdi-
  21. 1/2 cup green split moong daal
  22. 3/4 Cup khichdi rice
  23. 2 Teaspoons ghee / oil
  24. As per taste salt
  25. 1/2 Teaspoon turmeric (optional)

Steps to make to make Gujarati kadhi khichdi

  1. Firstly wash and soak he rice and dal together fo 20 minutes.
  2. Take A bowl. Put gramflour and slowly slowly pour buttermilk and keep stirring continuously to avoid lumps. (u can whisk) Once it is mixed well add turmeric, red chilli and salt. Mix well and keep aside.
  3. Take A deep vessel, heat oil in it. Put bay leaf, cumin seeds, cloves, black pepper, fenugreek seeds, dry red chilli, and pinch of asafoetida one by one and saute on low flame. Then add ginger-garlic paste, green chillies and curry leaves mix well and pour the besan and curd mix slowly on low flame and keep stirring continuously so that no lumps are formed.
  4. Keep stirring on low and then add 1-2 glasses of water mix well and bring it to A soup type consistency. Let it come to A boil for 2-3 minutes. Meanwhile, take A pressure cooker put the soaked khichdi after removing excess water add salt, ghee/oil 1-2 glasses of water, mix well and pressure cook up to 4 whistles on low flame.
  5. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot with khichdi. (You may or may not add turmeric powder to khichdi while boiling/cooking)
